The Golden State Warriors took a massive step towards clinching the 2022 NBA Finals with last night’s game five win. Their unlikely hero was former 1st overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins who stole the show with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Just as well as the warrior’s leading man Stephen Curry was having an off night with only 16 points. Mind you, he managed 8 assists, which went a long way towards securing the victory.
Overall both sides looked tired after what has been a hard-fought series to date. Neither side had their 3-point shooting boots on with Golden State going 9-40! Boston was not much better at 11-32 but they at least improved in the second half hitting 8 in a row. This after missing their first 12 attempts in first half!
Those eight consecutive in the 3rd quarter saw them claw back a 12-point halftime deficit and take the lead. Still, if you turn the ball over 18 times it’s hard to win and Jason Tatum like Curry looked a bit out of sorts. Maybe a couple of days off will get them back to their best.
So after trailing twice in the series The Warriors are only a game away from clinching their 4th championship since 2015. Mind you the Celtics have faced elimination three times in the 2022 postseason so it may be a bit early to write them off.
Game Trivia
This was the first time Stephen Curry has not shot a 3-pointer in a playoff game.
