The 2019 NBA Draft takes place tonight at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York and as is the norm thanks to the numerous trades that have taken place some teams will be busy while others needn’t bother turning up. Four teams have no draft picks in either of the two rounds these being the Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers & Milwaukee Bucks. Their fans can have a quiet night unless they are rooting for a second team.
The draft is dominated by the New Orleans Pelicans who as well as striking it lucky in the Draft lottery (which may as well have been called the Zion Williamson Lottery as he is nailed on as the no 1 pick) they also have the no 4 pick thanks to the blockbuster Anthony Davis trade. They have 2 second round picks as well so are well-placed to do some trading or add more depth.
The most picks award belongs jointly to the Atlanta Hawks who need all the help they can get having only managed 29 wins in 2019, and the Philadelphia 76ers – who were a buzzer beater away from knocking out the eventual NBA Champions. Atlanta picks 8, 10 & 17 in round one, while the 76ers pick 24 but could package up their 4-second rounders if they wanted to move up a bit to grab a particularly coveted rookie. Other teams with multiple first-round picks include the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Memphis Grizzlies & San Antonio Spurs. Overall nine teams including those with no picks at all have no first rounder.
The Sacramento Kings have who have no round one selections do have three second round, with their opener being the much-traded 40th pick – not likely to catapult them into the playoffs, while five teams can go home early as they will have finished their drafting after round one. Anyway, the draft order as it stands is below and we can expect a few changes as inevitably one or more players will fall a little further than expected.
