How Does Protein Help Build Muscle?

As you might know, protein helps you build muscle. But eating loads of chicken and taking protein supplements alone won’t have your biceps popping.

So how does protein actually help you build muscle?

Protein is made up of amino acids, which are involved in most reactions in your body, one way or another. They surround and fill the tears that are made when you exercise and lift weights, making you, well, your muscles, bigger and stronger.

Balance is everything when it comes to diet! Eating too much means you could become dehydrated, end up gaining weight, and even get kidney stones.

Some sources of dietary protein include:
lean meat, poultry and fish
eggs
dairy products like milk, yoghurt and cheese
seeds and nuts
beans and legumes (such as lentils and chickpeas)
soy products like tofu
some grain and cereal-based products are also sources of protein, but are generally not as high in protein as meat and meat alternative products.
