College Football Week One Round Up

The opening week of the College season usually has a lot of meaningless games (by that we mean ranked teams taking on much weaker squads or FCS teams) and this one was no exception. However a few interesting games took place, the pick of which were:

UCF 56, UConn 17 – UCF carried on where they left off now 14 wins in a row. Even if they go another season undefeated the they will be snubbed for the playoffs though.

Auburn 21, Wash 16 – A big win for Auburn who have playoff aspirations, will be hard for Washington to make it now.

Notre Dame 24, Mich 17 – A huge statement win for the Fighting Irish with a fairly tough schedule an unbeaten ND will be in the playoffs. Michigan played well and should bounce back

WVU 40, Tenn 14 – West Virginia may be as good as the preseason hype. OK its only Tennessee but its still a Power 5 win and done with some style

Boisie 56, Troy 20 – Nice win against probably the cream of the Sun Belt. A top 25 ranking after week one is a must after this. But for how long?

Maryland 34, Texas 29 – Probably the shock of the weekend Texas were supposed to be good this year will they bounce back?

Ole Miss 47, TTU 27 – Nice result against a decent team.

Iowa 33, NIU 7 – Great opening win. Iowa are not going to win the PAC -12 but they will be going bowling in December

LSU 33, Miami 17 – Huge win for LSU against a team which was (is) expected to be challenging for a Playoff place.

Virginia Tech 24, FSU 3 – The post Jimbo Fisher Era at FSU gets off to a bad start Virginia Tech might be a good team though.

Appalachian State 38 Penn State 45 (OT) – Performance of the week by Appalachian State taking this one to the wire

Akron Nebraska – The Scott Frost era will have to wait another week due to the weather. It could be a bumpy start as Nebraska have some much tougher games coming up.

Anyway it will be interesting to see how the Rankings change after this.
