2018 Arizona Bowl Sun Belt v Mountain West

The 2018 Arizona Bowl looks somewhat out of place in the midst of all these Power Five clashes & CFP Bowls is playing second fiddle to the big CFP Bowls today, and sadly we are not expecting it to be too much of a spectacle to heighten the profile of the Power Five.

Arkansas State had a winning season picking up four wins to end the season and did play some better teams including National Champions elect Alabama (who thrashed them 57-7) and against Appalachian State who waltzed the New Orleans Bowl and Georgia Southern who edged the Camellia Bowl. Wins wise they could only beat who they played none of which stands out.

Nevada had a good season in a fairly strong Mountain West and won four of their last five games to become Bowl eligible. They also tried their luck against the SEC losing 41-10 against Vanderbilt and losing to Fresno & Boise n conference play was no disgrace. Win wise we are struggling to spot a good one – SDSU probably being the pick and they hardly franked the form being blanked by Ohio in the Frisco Bowl.

We are expecting a close lowish scoring game, and when you have two evenly matched teams we tend to go with the one with the better stats and Arkanasa State are better defensively and offensively and thus we think they will edge it.

Our prediction is for Arkansas State to win 19-13.

For those who like to keep track of these things, we are 11-11 so far in our predictions – not too good after starting out 6-1.
