Love Island: Molly-Mae is receiving Love Island aftercare after online trolling

Molly Mae Hague is now receiving support after being a victim of bad online trolling. The trolling has come after people started to question her intentions were with Tommy Fury and if she was just in it for the money.

Before the villa Molly Mae was already an influencer with a large online profile now she has over 2.9 million followers and a far bigger platform for her job. However, this is not all good as with large followings comes even bigger trolling so it is not surprising she is continuing with the aftercare support from the show.

Molly Mae did not return to social media for five days after the show ended which is unusual for some people as it is her job but she was just taking a timeout so she could get all the advice and help she needed on how to deal with the new limelight.

She is still with Boyfriend Tommy Fury who she met in the villa and expressed on Instagram: “I found what I came here for. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the incredible support. This is just the start…”

Love Island’s duty of care procedure means all contestants will remain in active contact with producers for 14 months up until the end of the next summer series. This is to ensure they will have a positive mental wellbeing in the long run, and not just immediately after the show.

This year Love Island contestants were given a new guide to help they follow the law/rules on social media advertising for when they leave the villa. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) teamed up with ITV to make sure the contestants are aware of how to be upfront to their followers with paid advertising. Adverts on social media have to be clearly identified and normally this is with ‘#ad’ on the paid posts. This is now a law so the ASA and the Competition and Markets Authority can figure out what is an ad and what is not. The ‘survival kit’ will show how to declare ads on social media includes advice for paid-for posts and gifts, as well as information on how to display messages clearly.

This year Love Island:

  • Enhanced psychological support
  • Had more detailed conversations with potential Islanders regarding the impact of participation on the show
  • Gave training for all Islanders on social media and financial management
  • Provided proactive aftercare package which extends our support to all Islanders following their participation
