Will smith was seen slapping famous actor Chris Rock in the face on stage at the Oscars after the actor/comic made a joke about Will’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
“Jada, can’t wait for GI Jane 2,” he said, in an apparent reference to her shaved hairdo – which is a result of the hair loss condition alopecia.
Smith walked on stage and struck Rock before returning to his seat and shouting: “Keep my wife’s name out of your mouth.”
Will Smith went on to pick up the first oscar of his career for playing the father of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams in the movie King Richard.
Chris rocks joke was a reference to the 1997 movie GI Jane in which Demi Moore played the lead role with a very noticeable buzzcut!
The comedian looked stunned in the immediate aftermath of the incident, but told the audience: “That was the greatest night in the history of television.”
The Los Angeles police department later reported that Chris had declined to file a police report against the attack off Will smith.
Reporters had been taking part in their typical backstage press conference but attention suddenly went off the other celebrities when the attack was put on the big screen outdoors, people first thought it was a joke or even a setup as Will appeared to laugh at first about Chris Rocks joke, but Jada didn’t seem that way but everyone still thought it was just a setup, which was later discovered that it wasn’t.
