Five Classic Clips From Fawlty Towers

Fawlty Towers

Fawlty Towers is an iconic British television sitcom written by husband and (then) wife, John Cleese and Connie Booth. It first aired on the BBC for a total of six in episodes in 1975. A second series of a further six episodes was screened four years later. The multiple award-winning show is often deservedly cited by viewers and pundits alike as the funniest sitcom of all time.

The show is predominately set at Fawlty Towers, a fictional hotel in the English seaside resort town of Torquay. Former Monty Python team member Cleese stars as the eccentric, rude and irascible hotel owner, Basil Fawlty. In no particular order, here’s five excerpts of the many moments of comedy gold from Fawlty Towers:

Episode 5, Series 1: Gourmet Night (17 Oct 1975)

Episode 6, Series 1: The Germans (24 Oct 1975)

Episode 4, Series 2: The Kipper and the Corpse (12 Mar 1979)

Episode 3, Series 2: Waldorf Salad (5 Mar 1979)

Episode 2, Series 2: The Psychiatrist (26 Feb 1979)
