10 Things I Hate About You is a film about two sisters who have completely different personalities one being unsociable, independent, cold hearted young woman called Kat Stratford (Julia Stiles) who comes across as stubborn and mean but, she is just protective over her family and friends. The other sister however is a caring, popular, and kind young women called Bianca Stratford (Larisa Oleynik) their father is a very strict parent who has one main rule to keep the sisters safe after their mother died. That rule being that neither of the girls can date until they finish school, however their father changes the rule when Bianca asks to go on a date. to Bianca isn’t allowed to date until Kat is dating herself, this of course makes Bianca angry because Kat vows, she will never date as she doesn’t have any interest in dating.
This is where Bianca comes up with the plan of getting the new boy Cameron James (Joseph Gordon- Levitt) who is interested in dating her to find someone to date Kat so that she can go on a date herself but not with him she really wants to go out on a date with Joey Donner (Andrew Keegan) the schools most popular boy. Whilst on this hunt to find someone for Kat to fall for Cameron finds the perfect match Patrick Verona (Heath Ledger) whose classed as the schools “bad boy” now of course not just anyone can go up to him and start a conversation with Patrick, so Camron and his friend Michael Eckman (David Krumholtz) come up with a plan to get Joey Donner to pay Patrick for taking Kat out as they have no money and Patricks price is $50.
Patrick try’s everything to get Kat to go out with him and he messes up a lot by not understanding how to talk to her and who she really is even though she tries to open and trust him. Closer to the end just before the prom Kat ends up telling Bianca what really happened between her and Joey and why Kat was always trying to protect her sister from making the same mistakes that she did. Kat and Bianca end up going to the prom as Kat doesn’t want to disappoint her sister again. Even though Bianca doesn’t end up going with who you would expect her too she has a good time up until Joey comes along and destroys the night for them all by telling Kat about the bet and by being disrespectful to Bianca’s date. Once Kat finds out about Patrick being paid to go out with her she gets extremely angry with him as you would expect. At the end of the film Kat presents her poem in front of her English class. Her poem is about how much she “hates” Patrick because of what he has done, but you can see that its about how much she likes him and what she likes about him. This gets to Patrick as he releases how much he has messed up and leaves her a present in her car as a forgive me gift.
This film in my opinion is a classic and I understand not a lot of people have seen it but I would recommend it to anyone.
