Marvel’s Spiderman!

Insomniac games have managed to create a brilliant, outstanding and world class Spiderman game. They were developing this for a long time, trying to get all the actions and mechanics right before releasing it, and it was worth the wait… I love this game! This game takes me back to one of the first Spiderman games I played and enjoyed; Spiderman 2! They really nailed it. They did, near enough, everything right when developing this game! I’ve had the game since the game got released on PS4 and completed the whole of the normal campaign and completed the DLC one, just a few more side quests still to do. In my opinion, Spiderman is one of the hardest games to create due to the webbing mechanics, this would be one of the hardest parts to code within this game… I would think. They have created a great game with some insane Easter eggs and more! Has a few laughs throughout it, this game really hit me in the heart when playing cause, the storyline was brilliant. Stan Lee would have been Proud of this.

First Impressions!

When I first started to play this game, I instantly thought “this game won’t live up to the hype and won’t be the same as Spiderman 2” but I was very wrong! Not only throughout the game, at the start of the game, it managed to keep me on the edge of my seat! The introduction to the game will tell you how to swing around the open world and how to fight! The start of the game is one of the best starts to a game I’ve ever seen, fighting through a mob of people and a boss fight at the end! A few quick time events as well, so you better be quick! I was happy to see how much effort Insomniac put into the start of the game, shows they care about this game and will be willing to create more in the future, which I can’t wait for the next chapter! I remember pre-ordering this game thinking I bought this for no reason, but I’m glad I did! At the start, when I was in the tutorial part, I didn’t really know what was going on, I was very confused but once I got the hang of it, I started getting more into the game! Right now, its one of my favourites!

Character Development!

In my opinion, Character development is one of the most important parts when thinking of creating a game because if the characters don’t have feelings or make the user have feelings then there isn’t going to be many of use wanting to play the game and will give up playing it. Spiderman goes into fine detail, they let us understand each character as we progress through the game. Even when just swinging around the place you will hear Peter Parker randomly say something that’ll make us all think and want to play more. Each character has their own part to the storyline, so listen carefully to what they have to say. This is what I loved about the game, each character had a story to tell, Miles was a huge Spiderman fan and wanted to be like him, he would have done anything to see him and when he finally met him, he was excited, which for me made me happy to see. Mary Jane would go into detail about her job and would get herself into dangerous places just for a story, and would, make us wonder why she would do it! Main point of this is, if you miss anything one of the characters say, you may not understand the story very well.

Campaign, My thoughts!

The campaign was very interesting to say the least, the cut-scene would have me on the edge and would make me think of what’s coming next! After each mission I would be thinking what’s coming next and wonder what’s happening. The best part of the whole campaign in my opinion was when we had a small cameo off Stan Lee! He created the marvel world. This came as a shock from me, I didn’t expect to see him, my childhood hero, in this game. Overall the campaign kept me up at night for a few days trying to think what would happen next. This was one hard hitting campaign as well! I loved it and will play it again when I get bored! The Player is also able to be both Miles Morales and Mary Jane Watson! The campaign goes all out!

Games Mechanics!

My thoughts will stay the same, they didn’t do anything wrong. This game really captures what Spiderman does! Swinging is perfect, you can swing from building to building, but if there’s nothing to web onto, you can’t swing, this was a feature I didn’t think this game would have due to other Spiderman games not having this feature! Fighting is brilliant, you can do a lot of weird and incredible combinations! I don’t know them all but with a bit more practise I will be able to master them all! The one issue I noticed for this game was crawling up the walls, I would struggle to even crawl on the wall, never mind getting onto the wall! That’s the only thing I would say that could be improved with Spiderman, everything else was fine when controlling him.

Problems I had!

There are very little things they need to improve, the main one is the performance, I had a lot of issues with the game freezing at certain points then restarting the cut scene over and over again, I would have to restart the game and restart the level, the games had 2 to 4 updates so I think this is fixed. In the recent DLC, the cut scene would go as my game was still loading, therefore meaning I would miss the cut scene which wasn’t idol since I wanted to watch them and understand the story more! Other than these two problems, the game runs smoothly.

Improvements!

Every game has improvements, even a game I say is 10 out of 10 needs improvements, the first improvement would be Spiderman’s fighting style. He would always kick and wouldn’t punch or anything, if Insomniac games would add more fighting styles that would be great. More suits from other Spiderman games, the suit options are good and there are a lot of them, but I think they could add some from the past games as well as the current generation, the amazing Spiderman’s suit was classic and had some features the old one didn’t yet that wasn’t in the game, there isn’t really enough options in my opinion. The last improvement would be to try and make the boss fights a little less repetitive, I could tell that the fights were repetitive because you would either have to web the guy up or throw an item at him to fight. They should have allowed more ways off attacking an enemy!

Overall

Spiderman is one of the hardest games to create, in my opinion, so Insomniac have done extremely well to provide use with a brand-new Spiderman game that reaches everyone’s expectations! This game has got potential to be one of the best games out there, well best Marvel game. Goes back to Stan Lees comics and shows us 5 to 6 enemies Spiderman had to fight for his city. This game is truly great, I would highly recommend this game to anyone who loves the Marvel Franchise!
