YouTube Is Now Posting Free To Watch Films

In the past month, YouTube has sneakily released an array of films that free to watch… (but are ad supported, obviously).

There aren’t many titles to be excited about, but notable films that are on the platform include The Terminator, Legally Blonde, and Rocky. They operate much like watching movies on TV, the film plays with scheduled ad intervals. You might be thinking, why not just watch them on TV? Well you now have the convenience of watching these classics on demand rather than waiting for them to appear on your screens at any moment.

Rohit Dhawan, YouTube’s director of product management, told AdAge that “the company saw an opportunity for consumers and advertisers, and notes that there might be a way for advertisers to “sponsor” films or hold exclusive screenings.” At the moment, the selection is limited to 100 films, a selection that Dhawan says will eventually expand. The move could be attributed to the release of Roku’s new service that allows users to watch free movies in a similar fashion. Their service also includes a number of older films including: The Matrix and 50 first dates.
