Today is an international Lightning safety awareness day, an international awareness event created by the Centre for Science and Technology of the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM S&T Centre) in 2015. On June 28, 2011, in Masindi, Uganda, 18 school children taking shelter in their primary school died after a lightning strike. Dozens more were injured. This scientific community and others urge injury prevention activities and awareness campaigns on this day
