The Apple Card can be damaged by jeans and wallets

Apple has advised people with its new credit card to keep away for leather and denim. Keeping the card in jean pockets or a leather wallet could cause permanent discolouration.

The Apple Card has become available in the US this week and the company has published a guide explaining how you should keep it in good condition. The card is plain matte white made of titanium.

The guide warns that storing the card with other credit cards can scratch and damage it. Colour can also be transferred onto the card and stain it. If your card does become in contact with things that stain it, Apple advises you to:

  1. Gently wipe the stain etc with a soft, slightly damp lint-free microfiber cloth.
  2. Moisten a soft, microfiber cloth with isopropyl alcohol and gently wipe the card.

Apple have also said that users should not try and clean it with any “window or household cleaners, compressed air, aerosol sprays, solvents, ammonia, or abrasives”.

“I can say from two months of having the card in my leather wallet, it no longer looks pretty,” said one Apple employee on Twitter.

Many people have also taken to Twitter to talk about the protection for the card.
