Thursday Night Football: What Happened?

Thursday Night Football: What Happened?

Mid week games rarely bring the excitement weekend fixtures do, but there were a few shockers and twists in the tale last night.

Liverpool were unsuccessful in the EFL cup.

Arsenal took on Liverpool again for the second time in the space of a week, and it was a pretty interesting game to say the least – despite it finishing 0-0. Those who watched it would agree that Liverpool were the more dominant side throughout the game. Despite this, they went on to lose from a penalty shootout, with Arsenal knocking them out of the EFL cup.

If we travel further north we’ll find Celtic and Rangers had a pretty successful night against foreign squads.

Rangers went on to beat Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray whilst Celtic narrowly beat FK Sarajevo, despite having a few good chances on goal. Gerrard’s rangers side thoroughly deserved the win as they were pressing hard even up until the final few minutes of the game.

Across the sea you’ll find that Barcelona beat Celta Vigo away from home 3-0, showing that even though they’ve lost some valuable players, they are still in top form as a team.

And finally, back in England, Stoke shocked the country as they beat favourites, and the very in form team Aston Villa 0-1 away from home, with a goal early in the first half. There were surprisingly no other goals in the game, despite both teams both scoring and conceding lots of goals recently.

The action is set to continue again this weekend in the Premier League, with London teams Chelsea and Crystal Palace going head to head at 12:00 on Saturday to kick off the football weekend.
