Premier League: Another Crazy Weekend

Another crazy weekend in the Premier League – to say the least.

Where to start! Pretty much all the big teams this weekend got battered by the underdogs. If you had any bets on all the favourites this weekend – its safe to say they’ve not came in!

Everton kept up their winning ways however, putting 4 past Brighton. DCL has continued to score goals this weekend, and because of his recent performances, he’s also been called up to the England squad.

Manchester City were the favourites to win against Leeds, but as we’ve seen this season, you really can’t count Leeds out. Despite going 1-0 down to a Sterling goal, they managed to get a goal back in the second half, tying the game at 1-1.

In form Leicester also got a thrashing this weekend, losing 3-0 to West Ham at home! Despite having 70 percent of the possession in the game, they didn’t manage to get any shots on target, whilst West Ham managed to get 6 off – scoring 3 of them.

They weren’t their usual selves this weekend, with very few shots at all in fact. Looking at the stats, you do have to wonder how and why they got so few shots off.

Now, to the games everyone is really talking about.

Manchester United, after going 1-0 up to Spurs in the first few minutes, ended up losing 6-1 at home. Bruno Fernandes tucked away a penalty after Martial was fouled in the box early in the game, and Manchester United fans were already getting excited. However, this was put to bed not long after Ndombele scored to make it 1-1. Mistake after mistake, United were giving Spurs too much time and space – which is especially dangerous considering the form they’re in.

Having 10 men certainly didn’t help United either, after Martial was sent off in a controversial exchange with a Tottenham player. By this point in the game, all seemed to be lost, with Tottenham scoring goal after goal.

The game ended seemingly how it started; with a Penalty. Harry Kane, the man in form stepped up and put it to the right of De Gea. He went the right way, but the penalty was too powerful, and, 15 minutes later, the final whistle was blown and the game ended 6-1.

But, Liverpool stole the spotlight from Manchester United, after a historical defeat against Aston Villa. Villa scored in the opening minutes due to a mistake from Adrian, and everything just went south from there. Watkins bagged himself another goal, sticking the ball hard into the top corner, just before Salah scored at the other end to cut the deficit to only 1 goal. However, it just wasn’t Liverpools day. Despite not playing that bad, there was too many mistakes in defence, and luck was on Villa’s side.

After Salah equalised, Villa went on to score 5 more goals in the game, 3 of them being from deflections off Liverpool players. Salah got one more goal which was assisted by Firmino, but it was too little too late.

Watkins also got himself a perfect hat-trick against the reds, scoring with his left foot, right foot, and a header – quite the achievement to say the least.

Jack Grealish wrapped the game up, scoring in a 1 on 1 situation to make it 7, leaving Liverpool fans, and everyone else watching in disbelief. The match ended 7-2, despite Liverpool having more possession, almost as many shots, and better pass accuracy. What a disaster.
