After almost 36 years of not being in the world cup, Canada has finally made it to the big league! Canada has now made their way to the world cup after beating Jamaica 4-0 and this means they are able to compete for the best prize in world football today!
This victory over Jamaica means Canada is able and guaranteed their entry to the world cup after finishing in one of three top spots of the final stage of Concacaf qualifying for Qatar 2022.
The reason why this will be a big deal for Canada is due to the fact their last ever world cup appearance was back in 1986 when they finished bottom of the group stages without scoring a goal in the world cup. They went to Mexico to have no chance of winning the world cup. Will this time be different?

English coach John Herman, who led the Canadian Women’s team to success in the Olympic Games in 2012 and 2016 and became Head Coach at Canada in 2018 said this!
“We just qualified for the World Cup, this is a legit football country,” said Herdman, who last worked in England as an academy coach at Sunderland more than 20 years ago. When I first took over and I said, ‘We’re going to qualify for the World Cup’, I don’t think they believed us. I’m happy for them because all of these fans have waited and waited and waited, and hung in with us – and we’re going.”
This is a great moment for Canada and a great moment for the whole of Football, will Canada do better than they did in 1986?
