The Tomorrow War
The Tomorrow War follows Dan Forester, a military man with two combat tours of Iraq under his belt. After serving in combat, he transferred over to the research lab of the military. He attended California State Univerity after leaving the military. He is currently employed as a high school Biology teacher.
After the opening scene, we are taken to December 2022, here we are introduced to Muri Forester, Dans Daughter and his wife, Emmy. Dan is on hold on his phone as he is in the final stages of an interview for a new job.
At Forester's household, there is a large party, and we can see in the background the finals of the FIFA World is on the TV, with what appears to be France v Brazil. During the party, Emmy discusses the relationship between Dan and his father briefly after a Christmas card arrives from his for Muri. This quickly sets the tone of the estranged relationship between Dan and his Father.
Dan ends his phone call after being rejected for the applied position. He enters the house to sit with Emmy and Muri. Obviously upset from the news, he explains that he is destined to do something special with his life.
We cut back to the World Cup match presented on the Foresters TV, and we see the TV Flicker, and then on the pitch, we see a bright light followed by military appearing from the bright light. This is our first introduction to Luitenant Hart, who explains that they are from 30 years in the future where they are fighting a war against aliens known as the Whitespikes.
We are taken to a series of news clips that explains that the military personnel have been first to travel to the future, but 50% have died in combat, and now they are recruiting "drafting" members of the public to fight, but their rate of survival is only 20%.
We see Muri having nightmares about her father being drafted for the future war, which leads to her having a panic attack.
We are then taken to Dan teaching his science class, where the students are disconnected due to what appears to be their guaranteed demise in 30 years. The only student still engaged is Martin, who is obsessed with ancient Volcanoes that he describes as natures fury.
During the lesson, his phone receives an alert telling Dan to go to the conscription office. First, Dan is scanned, and we learn that he will be drafted for the future war as he is due to die in October 2030. Next, his arm is placed into a machine that attaches a device to his arm that allows him to travel to the future. We are also told that the device will track his movement, and he will have 24 hours to get his affairs in order before starting basic training.
Emmy, learning that Dan has been drafted, sends Dan to meet with his father, James (J. K. Simmons), so they can find a way of hiding from the government. James is an engineer who also served in the Vietnam war, who can remove the devices from people's arms to evade being drafted. However, after fighting with his father for leaving the family when dan was a child, he leaves without the removal of the device. Dan breaks to news to Emmy and then explains to Muri that he has been drafted.
Upon basic training, it is explained that Dan will be joining a research team to help fight the war against the Whitespikes using their scientific knowledge to find a way for survival and to defeat the enemy.
They are told there will be 7 days of training, but this is cut short due to the research facility being attacked, and so they are taken to the future to join the fight immediately. Unfortunately, there is a malfunction during the time jump that takes them to the wrong coordinates.
From here, Dan leads a team for search and rescue and fight the war against the aliens in action-packed 80 minutes of fight scenes, twists and turns.

What you see is what you get!
The Tomorrow War, is without a doubt a great film, especially for one that is released straight to stream. Chris Pratt does a fantastic job as the lead and you can see his personality seep through the movie within his position as executive producer.
The film is not a short one, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, there is a great in-depth storyline. The Film generally where it does have a lot of twists and turns most are quite predictable. Whether it be the relationship with his father being in tatters to then recovering by the end, his daughter being reunited with her father in the future, the aliens being located on earth on the present day and even the supervolcano reference at the beginning being a clue to the plotline. However, all that being said the scenes are action-packed, the story flows well, there are some great comedy points and also emotional parts, there's not much to not enjoy.
The only thing that stops the film from being pushed to another level is the predictable nature of it, but to be honest it's also something I quite enjoyed about the film.
