A Love Island star has revealed he has lost sight in one eye after a “really unfortunate accident” involving a champagne cork. Theo Campbell, who appeared on the 2017 series of the TV show has revealed his eye “got split in half” after he was hit with a cork whilst on holiday.
The star posted alongside his girlfriend, also former Love Island contestant Kaz Crossley, with his eye heavily bandaged up.
“Thanks for all the messages and support I’ve got over the last couple days they’re all very much appreciated,” he wrote.
“So yeah, basically, two eye surgeries later after a really unfortunate accident, I’ve lost all vision in my right eye as it got split in half – who would have thought a champagne cork would be the end of me?
“But I still have one eye left, looking at the bright side of things.”
Campbell thanked Crossley for flying out to be by his side in hospital, before adding: “If anyone knows where sells cool eye patches let me know.”
He also took to Twitter to explain further about what condition his eye is in. He wrote: “I currently have 7 stitches in my eye (gross) and the doctors say it’s unlikely I’ll see properly again, they done a good job saving it as they said I might loose my whole eye to begin with. But Im hopeful and don’t want to believe my eye is gone forever. Anything is possible 🤞🏽”
An eyewitness told OK!: “Theo was on holiday in Ibiza enjoying himself when someone popped a bottle of champagne and the cork flew into his eye.
“People were screaming when they realised what happened and saw the state of his eye. One of the guys said it looked like his eye had exploded.”
