YouTube Website Review

*To avoid any confusion, this is a review of the actual website itself; not the content.*

YouTube is a video sharing platform owned by Google, and is the most popular video sharing platform on the whole internet.

Users upload around 300 hours of video to the website every minute. Popular channels can actual make a living from uploading to the site, for example pewdiepie is the most subscribed channel with just short of 77 million fans. The main function of YouTube is to provide users with a wide range of different videos from entertainment, education and information.

YouTube has a very dynamic interface, meaning a user is almost instantly drawn into the page as soon as they access it. The search bar at the top allows you to search a keyword and then it bring up an array of results relating to the term you searched. YouTube also has account features where you can make an account, upload video and subscribe to channels so you get updates about the channels activity. YouTube also shows adverts at the top of the home screen. In general YouTube has a simple colour scheme and structure making it a clean and easy to use site.

Its a very consistent website as most pages have the same layout of the page, except the videos are obviously different. The colour scheme and layout are virtually the same on every page. The font doesn’t really change either, just the font size changed. YouTube is good for consistency as once you go on a new page or video everything is where you expect it to be.

YouTube uses pictures, videos, and audio for its main content; that’s its niche. Also, the website uses interactive adverts where you can play games on some. And when a video buffers, you can press an arrow key to start playing the classic nokia game “Snake.”

Overall, the site is very easy to use for everyone; it has to be really, as it is one of the most popular websites on the internet! YouTube has a very plain and simple interface where a click can sometimes get you right where you want to be. You can usually find what you want to find on the site in very few clicks. And on the mobile YouTube app, you can enable your microphone to search by voice. This could be useful for disabled people, or people with poor typing skills.

YouTube meets the user requirements as it has many settings to optimise its use such as screen size, video quality and more, so almost anyone can easily use the website. YouTube is a video sharing and viewing site and it allows you to do these things very quickly and efficiently.   Some advantages of using this site over other video platforms is that it is a very popular website, so it will often display for helpful and entertaining content than other sites; because there is a lot more of it to choose from. It is also very secure as a site as it is owned by Google, which is a very big technology company. YouTube also has a lot of exclusive features and content which you can’t find elsewhere.

Disadvantages of using YouTube are that they have very strict content policies so you might not always be able to find what you’re looking for. Also, the adverts can get annoying at the start of videos, as some are unskipable and quite long.
