New York Giants Add Golden Tate To Receiving Core

The New York Giants went some way towards filling the void left at wide receiver following the OBJ trade by signing veteran Golden Tate to a four-year deal. Whether or not this stops them from drafting a wide receiver early is debatable given that Tate is not a deep ball threat but more of a yards after contact type of player who typically operates best from short passes. Having said that he will cost the Giants less than half the money they would have paid Beckham, and he is coming off of a relatively good season, amassing 795 receiving yards and four touchdowns in 15 games split between Detroit and Philadelphia. This was quite impressive given that he only started eight games, and had to adjust to a new offence mid-season. In his two previous years as a starter in Detroit had over 1000 yards in each.

He is no Odell Beckham Jr, he will contribute and the money saved can be put to use strengthening the team in other areas. We still expect them to pick up a further wide receiver in the draft, but this does take some of the pressure off having to reach for one.
