Chester zoo thanks all their supporters during the pandemic.

Most places have been closed since March, zoos included.

They took to social media to announce how happy they were about being able to re open soon, and how everyone’s support was greatly appreciated. The zoo not so long ago was explaining how they may have to shut down if lockdown measures weren’t eased soon.

The statement read: “YOU DID IT! A week ago, we were in despair, not knowing when we would reopen, or if we could even survive much longer…

BUT YOUR VOICES HAVE BEEN HEARD!

We have JUST received the news that we’ll be able to open safely from 15 June.

Your support has been incredible. Every kind donation, every word of support. It really is making a HUGE difference.

The fight isn’t over for us just yet. But, for now, we want to celebrate this huge moment of relief with you.

There’s no denying that we have suffered severe financial damage over the past three months and the road to recovery will be long and uncertain. But, your incredibly kind donations, animal adoptions and memberships are giving us a vital lifeline.

Over the next few days we’ll be letting you know when and how you’ll be able to book a ticket to visit. Please bear with us while we do this.”

Support of the zoo included over £2.5 million in ground funding from the public, and supermarket chain Iceland adopting penguins at the zoo.

Zoos and other such attractions have been told they can open around the June 15th date, to many people’s delight, but social distancing measure will obviously be in place for the time being.

It’s good timing, because just recently the zoo announced they had £5 million in financial losses due to the zoo not being open because of the pandemic. Everyone’s support is clearly appreciated by the zoo, and they can’t wait to open their doors to everyone again.
