Every year, the football community pick the world’s best player, who has been performing the best all year round and see who wins the best player of the year and be considered the best player in the world. There has been a lot of speculation about this year’s Ballon D’or, we could see our first defender Ballon D’or winner since Cannavaro. The winner is going to be announced tonight and everyone is excited to see who will win the Ballon D’or this year!
There are two people that are favourites to win this award and no one knows who is going to win the award at all. The two favourites are Virgil Van Dijk and Lionel Messi. Fans around the world are wanting someone else to win the award other than Messi and Ronaldo, however Messi has been in top form this year and so have Van Dijk. Messi is the obvious winner in some people’s eyes and others believe that Van Dijk should win the award due to him winning the Champions League and almost winning the Premier League.

After all, the Ballon D’or is a huge and anyone who wins the award should be classed as every lucky and will be classed by everyone in the world as the best player in the world. Will it be Van Dijk… or Messi?
