The best TV crime dramas coming later this year

We are mostly a nation of crime obsessives if you look at statistics on many crime series etc. The being on edge feeling and detective work that is involved has people gripped to crime shows. 

From BBC’s Line of Duty to ITV’s The Bay they had everyone wanting to see more and were some of the best shows on television for crime. 

There is no stopping for crime shows/series any time soon, there is a string of new shows and series coming later this year. Here is what you will be watching…

 

ITV

A Confession – ITV

A Confession is a new ITV series which will have six episodes which show a true crime story of an investigator who is determined to bring a killer to justice. It is based around a 22-year-old, Sian O’Callaghan, who mysteriously disappeared in 2011 and her body was found days later. The investigator had to choose between protocol and justice. 

 

Netflix

Criminal – Netflix 

Criminal is about 12 police procedural stories which are set in the UK, Spain, France and Germany. Criminal is set in a police interview room and is described by Netflix as a “stripped-down, cat-and-mouse drama” that “focuses on the intense mental conflict between detectives and suspects.” It also stars actors from Line of Duty. It will be coming to Netflix 20 September.

 

ITV

Marcella, series 3 – ITV 

Marcella is coming back to our TV screens with eight new episodes. It will see Marcella in Belfast as an undercover detective and has gained access to a crime family.

Liar, series 2 – ITV 

Liar is also returning to ITV, the show is around a serial rapist called Andrew Earlham who was heading for prison but at the end of series one he was shown half submerged in muddy marshes with his throat slit. The police found evidence footage of him raping 17 different women however, he had gone missing aka he was dead in the marshes. For series 2 shows the police finding his body and they are tasked with uncovering clues about the mans passed.

Dublin Murders – BBC

Dublin Murders is a new psychological crime thriller for BBC one. It focuses on two murder investigations in Ireland. The victims are  “a young talented ballerina who is found dead on an ancient stone altar; and a vivacious free-spirited woman, who is found stabbed in a roofless famine cottage.” They are eventually connected by shared themes.

The Capture – BBC 

The Capture is a CCTV thriller which shows the troubling world of fake news. It follows soldier Shaun Emery, whose conviction for murdering someone in Afghanistan is overturned due to flawed video evidence. It has been said to be similar to Bodyguard.
