Sweet Tooth – Season 1, Episode 3

Weird Deer S**t

Overview

Jepp and Gus relocate and come up with a plan to ensure Gus can reach Colorado searching for his mother. To try and keep him safe while trying to catch the train, Jepp comes up with the idea to dress him in disguise to try and make it look as though he is a human child pretending to be a hybrid.

Jepp is adamant with Gus that he must follow the rules set in place to keep him safe while in the train station. Trading 2 AA batteries for entry, Gus is naturally overwhelmed with the number of people surrounding him. Still, when he lays his eyes on some caramel apples, the boy is overjoyed and takes off to grab some, getting in trouble with the woman at the stall.

When Jepp buys the train ticket for Gus, the tokens are not enough, and he has to trade shoelaces to get the ticket. Jepp tried to replace the medication Gus had previously devoured and places him on a bench telling him not to move. Still, when he spots a poster with the word Colorado and Red Rocks just like his picture of Birdie, the boy has to investigate more, that’s when he spots all the children playing games outside and steps out to see more when he is almost carried away with a wave of people he bumps into a girl who offers a hand in helping but he is soon pulled back by Jepp.

Jepp prepares him for the train journey he is about to take alone. Still, Gus informs him he can smell the candy that Jepp likes so much (his medication), so Jepp pulls the boy back in hopes he can find it. Unfortunately, while trying to find it, both are sabotaged by a guard, which ultimately shows the lengths Jepp is willing to go yet again to protect Gus. They end up being caught by other guards as they try their best to escape the situation; however, both end up tied to a horse and dragged blindfolded through the woods by the last men. When the sound of Arrows being shot surrounds them, Gus and Jepp panic, but to their relief, they are met by the Animal Army, one of which was the girl who had tried to help Gus at the train station.

Adi Singh seems to be struggling with the moral dilemma of his actions to find a cure for the sick. While his wife is still managing to survive, it seems the trial drugs have done well so far as she is the longest surviving with the sickness. As it is Survivors Memorial Day in the gated community in which they live, the pair finds them in an impossible situation when asked to attend a party. Rani’s tremor seems to worsen as Adi is concerned the neighbourhood will find out she has the sick they have so cautiously tried to conceal. We find out that the protocol for someone testing positive in the gated community is to burn the house down with the person inside brutally. While enjoying the party, Adi becomes increasingly agitated as they try to hide Rani’s pinkie finger shaking. When another neighbour drops and smashes a glass, it is noticed that his pinkie is shaking.

The party mood quickly changes when Adi is asked to perform a test on him, which ultimately seals Doug’s fate when it comes back positive. The party-goers leave promptly after he is tied to a chair and his house set alight. The neighbours stand together outside, watching and speculating that a second wave of the sick has entered their community.
