Overview

Aimee decides to barricade herself into her works office when the warning of the pandemic is released. As her surroundings change around her, she decides to leave when she is greeted by an elephant walking down the road. Her attention is turned to the local Zoo in which she decides to take shelter.

We can see Jepps dismay of Gus following him as he throws rubbish in hopes to get away from Gus, he thinks he has lost him, but when Jepp makes a camp for the night, Gus appears in the bushes and settles down with him for the night. Jepp is woken by Gus going through his bag and eating all his food and medication. Gus spots a house up in the woods, which the pair decides to go and investigate to find more food supplies when they are reluctantly accepted in by a family who has been staying there.

We find out Rusty, the family’s child, is thought to be one of the last human children before the hybrids came and find out a little bit of Jepps background as he was once an American Football player before the great crumble. Jepp pleads with the family to take care of Gus as he would be better off with them. Gus begins to form a relationship with Rusty questioning him about stories of the dangers of the worlds, which Gus is starting to realise were not always the truth. As everyone starts to settle down for the night, Jepp tried to sneak out of the house to leave them to it when he is stopped by Gus, who tells Jepp there are men surrounding the house. The men tried to raid the place to take Gus away, but Jepp fights with all his might to protect the boy from the last men and the general. In the morning, the family explain to Jepp that as much as they want to protect Gus, they must protect Rusty first.

Adi is left with the burden of finding a cure after Gladys, the doctor who has been helping his sick wife Rani, tells him she has stage 4 cancer and can no longer carry on her research as she is becoming sicker with the illness. Adi confides in Rani he is unsure if he can carry on with her research as he was unable to cope with the pressure of working when the sick first hit; he stopped practising and has not for the past 10 years.

While Aimee is settling down into her new home, when she discovers a crate outside that contains a hybrid child, half pig, half-human.
