Stranger Danger on a Train

Overview

Gus, Bear and Jepp are running for their lives for the train. They quickly fall behind and need to find an opening. Gus swings himself in, bear next, but Jepp can’t seem to keep up. The kids try frantically to encourage him.

We flashback to Jepp being on the football field and fighting for the ball. As he leaps to get on to the train, we think he has missed it, but after a few intense seconds, his hand rises, and he climbs up onto the deck. All together, now they look through the train to find it has no passengers and it will just be workers on deck. Back on the train, Gus is getting agitated like a normal young child on a long trip, asking are we there yet. Jepp reminds him to keep an eye out for the big river, and then they will be there. As Bear and Gus sit on the edge of the train, they can see all kinds of animals roaming freely. They then start to play eye spy with each other.

The pair sit and reminisce about the favourite memory they have of their families. When Gus tells Bear about his Pubba giving him Dog, he soon realises he is no longer in his bag. They quickly hide as a worker comes into their carriage, and they all must hide. Gus is still searching through his bag when he drops a glass bottle out of his bag, and the worker goes to find out what the noise was. Gus is grabbed by him when the worker seems to recognise Gus. Jepp attacks to protect the boy, and through the brawl, Jepp seems to know the man he knows as Jimmy ‘Fat Man’ Jacobs, he used to play football with.

As they catch up, Jepp helps Jimmy clean up the mess they made. Bear notices that Gus is missing. They notice the door is open and speculate that he has gone to find Dog. Jepp, Bear and Jimmy frantically search for Gus on the train, hoping to find him. Jimmy thinks Gus is his kid, saying it was a long time since he had seen Louisa and the baby. Jepp tells Jimmy they were both gone. Gus finally turns up, telling Gus he can’t find his Dog. Jepp said he would get him another one, and Gus tells him it won’t be the same as it reminds him of his Pubba. Jepp looks up to see out of the window. He turns to Gus and asks him does he remember what he told him. Gus says about the big river, turns to Jepp’s eye line, and spots the big river. Now they have GoGro; Jimmy tells them he knows where it is. It’s Goss Grove, but everyone calls it GoGro for short, and it’s a neighbourhood outside Essex.

Bear bursts in to tell them that there are Last Men in the next carriage heading their way. Jimmy quickly tells them to follow him as he leads them through the carriage to the back end of the train. Their only option now is to jump off the back of the train. Jepp is faced with a moral dilemma as he spots Dog through the window in front of the Last Men. He puts on a cap and walks out to pick up Dog. When the Last Men question him, he tells them that there is a possible gas leak. The last men reply, saying the stove is electric and the last man pull out a wanted sign. He pulls down boxes to block the door. He hands Gus Dog and tells them to leave. The kids refuse to leave without him. Jimmy tells him he will buy them some time, says his mind will never be the same again anyway, and if he is going to die, he’s going to die doing something he loved. Defending Jepp. One by one, they jump off the end of the train and Jimmy and Jepp have an emotional goodbye nod. Jimmy fights with all his might as they hear a crowd cheering in the background as if in a football stadium. Bear tells Jepp, going back with Dog was a really nice thing to do. Jepp tells her although she has plans to head south, she’s more than welcome to stick around with them. Gus yells over and tells them he’s found a sign with Essex on it. Exactly where Gogro is as they enter the run-down city.

The General starts to look through Adi and Rani’s home while the men extinguish the fire around them. Adi begs them to help him and his wife as they are still tied up. Adi tells him that he is a doctor, and he can make it. The general tells him he needs to book, and now he wants to leave. Rani tells him he will never have the cure if he doesn’t set them free. Intrigued, the General realises Rani has the sickness and realises she’s the Jane Doe in the doctors’ notes. Adi explains why he needed the Hybrid, and the cure can be found in the ghost DNA. Adi tells him that none of this is in the book, and if he wants the cure, both will have to be set free. After a moment of thinking about it, the General asks one of his members to untie them and take them back to their place where they will have everything they could want or need. Adi and Rani pack up their things and begin to prepare themselves to leave.

Adi is overwhelmed with everything that has just happened as Rani tries to calm him down. It’s the first time we see Adi really break down with the stress he has been under and now is panicked that he won’t be able to find the cure. He asks the men to leave while they pack, and Adi asks Rani what she thinks will happen when the General finds out they were bluffing about being so close to a cure. Adi reminisces with Rani about the first time he came across someone with the sick and how helpless he was. He breaks down and talks about all the cases he has come across and how they tried to calm them and comfort them, how he had become hardened to it as people came in, died and repeat. He stopped being a doctor for that reason, and now the feeling is back after Dr Bell gave him the clinic feeling is back. Rani tried to comfort him and tell him he is not on his own and she believes in him. Adi and Rani are bound and blindfolded onto a truck. Jonny gets on and lets Adi know he has let his horse go free as he had previously voiced his concern for her.

Aimee explains to Bobby and Pigtail that they need to leave immediately because the last men have been marked by the place. Aimee starts to close and lock all the doors in her best to keep them safe. This is the first time Aimee calls Pigtails Wendy in promising her she will keep her safe. Wendy picks up the scent that someone is outside as they watch on the cameras as a couple of men approach the gates. Wendy is emotional and she packs up a few of her belongings and says goodbye to her bedroom. She, Aimee, and Bobby leave together with the others to hide. Aimee tells Wendy she now needs to stop look after the others as she leads them through the tunnels. Aimee tells her to keep them safe and look after them in an emotional goodbye knowing she must go back to keep the Last Men from finding them. Aimee goes back and sits with her gun, watching the CCTV while more men slowly show up at the gate.
