Stranger Things

Stranger Things is an American SciFi horror show. The show first aired in 2016 on Netflix. The show is set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. The creators of the show are The Duffer Brothers. The show first aired on Netflix on the 15th of July 2016. The show has currently run for three seasons and season 4 is due to be released on the 30th of September 2020.

Stranger Things is categorized within the genre of Horror Scifi. The show centres around the supernatural and paranormal, the Hawkins National Laboratory is performing experiments into the paranormal under cover of energy research for the US Department of Energy. However, when something goes amiss, Hawkins is struck hard, and it’s up to a group of youngsters to save the town from destruction and battle in the ‘Upside down.’

Character List

The show is set in the 1980s, and with various 80s Pop-culture, music and fashion references the show creates a veil of nostalgia. The main characters are;

• Mike Wheeler, played by Finn Wolfhard, is close friends with Will Byers, Lucas Sinclair, and Dustin Henderson. In episode one of season one, the boys’ it shows the boys playing Dungeons and Dragons, Mike is their paladin and has the role of Dungeon Master. Wheeler is the son of Karen and Ted Wheeler and younger brother of Nancy and older brother of Holly.
• Dustin Henderson, played by Gaten Matarazzo, is a knowledgeable and attentive young man, he suffers from cleidocranial dysplasia as does Matarazzo in real life. Henderson, when it comes to Dungeons and Dragons, appears to be more knowledgable of the game than the others.
• Will Byers, played by Noah Schnapp, when playing Dungeons and Dragons he is referred to as ‘Will the wise’. Byers is a shy and timid character, and he is the younger brother of Jonathan Byers and the son of Joyce Byers.
• Lucas Sinclair, played by Caleb McLaughlin, is the warrior of the group with his chosen weapon, his trusty slingshot. Sinclair is the older brother to Erica.
• Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown, escapes from the Hawkins Laboratory, she has Telekinetic and telepathic powers which allows her to move objects with her mind and can find people in her mind’s eye. After escaping the laboratory, she befriended Mike, Will, Dustin and Lucas. When they play Dungeons and Dragons together, Eleven is the mage.
• Jim Hopper, played by David Harbour, is nicknamed ‘Hop’, he is the police chief for Hawkins. Hopper divorces after losing his young daughter, Sarah to Cancer. He becomes a father figure for Eleven. He is a compelling character but suffers from insecurities and is a recovering alcoholic.
