Ronald “Mac” McDonald is a Fictional Character played by Rob McElhenney in the FX T.V show “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia“.

Mac is Charlie Kelly‘s best friend and the roommate of Dennis Reynolds for the majority of the show. His mother and father are criminals and are both quite unloving towards Mac. His father becomes incarcerated for dealing meth and then threatens to kill Mac when he tries to get him out of prison.

At school, Mac is referred to as “Ronnie the Rat” as he is a telltale and ‘rats’ on his school mates.

Mac is also Co-owner of Paddy’s Pub, he has also self-labelled himself head of security. He sees himself as a tough masculine figure who is an expert in martial arts. He also describes himself as a badass and he records himself completing stunts in a show he calls “Project Badass”. Throughout the show, Mac’s weight fluctuates greatly when he is gaining weight he describes is as “Cultivating Mass”.

Religion

Mac is deeply religious and follows the bible literally, to the point where he believes that the earth is only five thousand years old. His religious beliefs contradict heavily with his sexuality. Mac, throughout the show, struggles with his sexuality but openly comes out as gay in the eleventh season.
