Ed Sheeran breaks U2’s record for highest earned tour

Ed Sheeran has thanked his fans after being announced that his Divide tour is the most attended and highest earned tour of all time. The singer paid tribute to this 31.2 million fans on instagram by writing: “Thanks so much for each and every one of you who have come to a show.

“12 shows left, will never forget it x.”

The tour started in March 2017 and will end later this month in Sheeran’s hometown of Ipswich after two years. The singer-songwriter spent a total of 893 days on tour which overran the U2’S previous record of 760 days. Sheeran made an estimated £607m on tour. He also has more than 8.5 million people attend this shows which were set across 43 countries. 

“My favourite band growing up was U2,” Sheeran’s manager, Stuart Camp, said. “I’m not putting us at that level because they’ve obviously maintained their career for much longer, but to even be in the same ballpark as them or spoken in the same sentence with a touring act like that is very humbling.”

U2 played 110 shows over 760 days between June 2009 and July 2011, they charged on average £83.27 where as Sheeran’s tickets were £71.41 on average.
