A$AP Rocky arrives back home in the US after being freed from jail

Rapper A$AP has arrived back to the US after being held in Swedish jail since the start of July. He currently awaits for his verdict in the assault case.

A$AP Rocky whose real name is Rakim Mayers was spotted departing a private jet in Los Angeles International Airport. He posted his first Instagram post since being freed and thanked everyone who supported him  “from the bottom of my heart”.

The judges of the case released the rapper and two of his team from jail whilst they came to a verdict which is expected to be announced on August 14th.

The rapper is accused of assault from an incident in Sweden last month. The charges were filed against the rapper and two others after swedish prosecutor Daniel Suneson said he had “come to the conclusion that the events in question constitute a crime despite claims of self-defence and provocation”. The rapper pleaded not guilty.

During the trial Mayers, told the court: “There’s a million things that we could have did, but we decided to walk away.”

The rapper told the court: “These guys were, you know, their behaviour was very weird and we didn’t know what to expect. It got a little scary for us. I couldn’t help but assume that these guys were under the influence of some type of drugs.”

The court was shown footage of the incident in which the rapper and his two team members were mixed in. The alleged victim said A$AP Rocky and his team assaulted him by kicking and punching plus alleged a glass bottle was used.

A$AP Rocky’s lawyer, Slobodan Jovicic, asked the victim why he approached the rapper in the first place. “Out of all the people in this square, you feel it appropriate to ask these people, whose language you don’t even understand?,” he asked.

Jovicic also played a clip from a mobile phone where it appears the victim was trying to hit the rapper’s bodyguard with his fists. The video was played in court; one of the rapper’s bodyguards lawyers, Martin Persson, asked the victim whether a glass/bottle was used in the attack, he added:  “So none of the eight hands in these photos actually holds a bottle.”

“I asked if they had the bottles from the beginning when they approached you and you said yes. Why are you unsure of this now?,” the lawyer added.

The alleged victim replied: “My wounds have not come from nowhere. Would they have come from the air? There are witnesses that can attest to this.”

The case has hit by Swedish-US relations after celebrities including Kim Kardashian West, Justin Bieber, Post Malone and Shawn Mendes backed the #JusticeForRocky campaign and Donald Trump publicly demanded for Mayers to be released.

US President, Donald Trump, was also supporting the rapper.
