The 13th of June marks International Albinism Awareness Day. Albinism is a rare, noncontagious, genetically inherited difference present at birth. It is still profoundly misunderstood, socially and medically, and, as a result, people with albinism face many forms of discrimination worldwide. The UN Launched the day to encourage the protection and preserve the rights of persons with albinism to life, dignity and security, as well as their right not to be subject to torture and degrading treatment or punishment, and to ensure equal access to employment, education, justice and health services.
