Week 14 was a bit light on games with six teams having byes, however, it certainly didn’t lack drama with seven games being settled by a single score. Not surprisingly Denver was on this list losing their ninth one-score game of the season!
The weekend’s shock result was Detroit’s smash & grab job on the Vikings where Jared Goff showed what he is capable of if given time in the pocket. Minnesota was shocking on the ground in this one and one has to feel for Kirk Cousins who put up 425 yards with a couple of TDs but got no help from the running game or their secondary. The Lions are on the ascent and could enter the playoff conversation if they keep this up.
The week’s results are below…
Thursday Night Football
Las Vegas Raiders 17 @ LA Rams 16
The Rams left it late scoring 14 points in the last few minutes to grab an unlikely win. They had Baker Mayfield under centre and it probably took him most of the game to get to grips with the playbook given he was with the Panthers a day earlier!
Sunday Early Games
New York Jets 12 @ Buffalo 20
Cleveland 10 @ Cincinnati 23
Houston 23 @ Dallas 27
Minnesota 23 @ Detroit 34
Jacksonville 36 @ Tennessee 22
Philadelphia 48 @ New York Giants 22
Baltimore 16 @ Pittsburgh 14
Trevor Lawrence made a big statement in this one throwing for 368 yards and 3 TDs as the jags took down their divisional rivals. They are still a way back in the AFC South, however, if Tennessee continues with their run of poor form then who knows The Jags could be heading for the playoffs!
Sunday Late Games
Kansas City 34 @ Denver 28
Tampa Bay 7 @ San Francisco 35
Carolina 30 @ Seattle 24
The 49ers looked impressive in this game racing into a 28-0 halftime lead and never looking back. Both Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey had good games and on this showing San Francisco will take some stopping.
Sunday Night Game
Miami 17 @ LA Chargers 23
This game was nowhere near as close as the score suggests. The Chargers had nearly double the offensive yards of the Dolphins but just couldn’t convert in the Red Zone. Justin Herbert had an impressive night passing for 367 yards but only one TD.
Monday Night Football
New England 27 @ Arizona 13
The Patriots kept their playoff hopes alive with a less-than-impressive win over the struggling Cardinals. Mac Jones once again failed to impress and there is a fairly good chance that the Patriots move on from him next season. Similarly, it now looks near certain that Cliff Kingsbury will be fired by the Cardinals sooner rather than later.
Bye Week
Atlanta, Chicago, Green Bay, Indianapolis, New Orleans & Washington
