Ricky Gervais has never been one to keep his opinion to himself, and that’s one of the things many people like about him. But recently, he has attracted attention for seemingly calling out celebrities for complaining about quarantining; seemingly in luxury houses.
He pointed out hero key workers are putting themselves at risk every day with no complaint, whilst celebs like Sam Smith are complaining about self isolation in his £12m home.
Gervais said: “After this is over I never want to hear people moaning about the welfare state again, I never want to hear people moaning about nurses again. Or porters.
“These people are doing 14-hour shifts and not complaining. Wearing masks, and being left with sores, after risking their own health and their families’ health selflessly.”B
And when addressing fellow celebrities he said: “Then I see someone complaining about being in a mansion with a swimming pool.
“And, you know, honestly, I just don’t want to hear it.”
And it’s a fair point; many people will be stuck inside living in poverty right now, with some families confined to a single room, so he is rightly pointing out that celebrity complaints about staying home are ridiculous. Gervais himself came from a working class family, with a carer mother and labourer father, who worked very hard.
The government have also addressed these concerns, saying how difficult it will be for some families living in these small spaces.
