Mourinho: “I Won’t Make The Same Mistakes”

Newly appointed Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho says “he will not make the same mistakes” at Spurs as he did in previous roles as a manager.

He replaced Mauricio Pochettino on Wednesday, after being out of football for around 11 months. He claims that he has spent time away from the game analysing his career and previous downfalls, saying that he was “humble” to reporters.

His role as manager of Manchester United ended last December.

“I realised I made mistakes, I’m not going to make the same mistakes. I’ll make new mistakes – but not the same.”

Although he wouldn’t let onto what exact mistakes he was referring to, he went onto say  “I am humble, humble enough to try and analyse my career – not just the last year, but the whole thing, the evolution, the problems and the solutions. Not to blame anyone else. It was a great thing. I went really deep with that analysis. A break was very positive for me. It was the first summer I did not work and I felt a little bit at a loss during that pre-season.

“I was always humble, in my way. The problem is you didn’t understand that.”

He was known as a big spender at Manchester United, spending over £400 million during the duration of his stay there, but, surprisingly, he seems to have already changed his managerial approach since joining Spurs. He said: “The best gift for me, I don’t need players, I am happy with the ones I have.

“I just need more time with them. I know them well from playing against them, but you never know them well enough.”

Tottenham are currently 14th, with only 3 wins since the start of the season. But he seems confident that he can revert Tottenham back into their old winning ways.

“We cannot win the Premier League this season, but we can win it next season. Not will, but can.”
