Rapper A$AP Rocky has now been charged with assault over a fight in Sweden last month. The charges were filed against the rapper and two others after swedish prosecutor Daniel Suneson said he had “come to the conclusion that the events in question constitute a crime despite claims of self-defence and provocation”.
The rapper has been in custody since July 3rd whilst they have been investigating the incident in Stockholm which happened before he performed at a music festival. His lawyer said the alleged incident was a “self-defence situation”.
Footage emerged of the rapper hurling a man to the ground and punching the man. Later the man who was attacked followed the rapper and his security guard was hit with a pair of headphones at him.
The guard is heard telling a bystander: “He hit me with the headphones, he cut me on my head – I could really beat the shit out of him, I don’t even know him, he’s following us. Tell him to leave us alone.”
US President Donald Trump got involved with the case when he had spoken to Sweden’s prime minister and “offered to personally vouch for the rapper’s bail”.
A petition received thousands of signatures for his release and Celebrities and fellow rappers supported it.
Prosecutor Suneson said in his statement: “It is worth noting that I have had access to a greater amount of material than that which has previously been available on the internet,” and that “in addition to video material, the injured party’s statements have been supported by witness statements.”
A$AP Rocky and three others will stay in custody until trial.
