PS Vita: The Last Handheld Gaming Device from Sony?

Sony are one of the biggest gaming companies in the world, they have created the PlayStation 1 to 4, and are most likely in the process of creating the PlayStation 5, however Sony have announced they have officially ended production of the PS Vita! The PS Vita was the Sony version of the Nintendo Switch, apart from not as good as it obviously! The reason this handheld gaming device didn’t sell as much as they thought, was because the popularity in mobile gaming started to increase when they first released this product! The PS Vita is what a lot of users were wanting, a handheld version of the PlayStation, however this didn’t go as well as people thought, as the hardware wasn’t perfect, and some games wouldn’t even run properly on it!

The first week of its release was decent to say the least, they managed to sell 300,000 units in a week and only sold up to 15 million units in the Vita’s entire life cycle! When comparing this to other consoles like Nintendo switch, they sold more than twice as many units, selling 32 million units two years after its first release! If, mobile gaming wasn’t starting to grow and grow, the PS Vita may have had a great lifetime but since mobile gaming is still growing to this day, it’s going to be hard to sell any handheld devices nowadays! Overall, we most likely won’t be seeing anymore handheld devices from Sony in the next few years, unless they are working on copying Nintendo with the PS5!
