NFC East 2023-24 Preview Are The Eagles Super Bowl Bound?

Last season, the NFC East was the best division in football. The Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants all made the playoffs and the Washington Commanders finished 8-8-1. The Cowboys made it to the divisional round and the Eagles, who won the division, made it to the Super Bowl.

Expectations remain high in 2023, and to remind everyone: There has not been a repeat division champ since the Eagles ruled from 2001 to 2004.

Last season’s finishing positions are below and keep reading to see our final table predictions.

NFC East 2022 Finishing Order

Philadelphia Eagles               14-3

Dallas Cowboys                       12-5

New York Giants                     9-7-1

Washington Commanders  8-8-1

2023 Thoughts

The NFC East looks the strongest division in the NFC by far and there is a good chance that three teams will make the playoffs again. The teams had a load of draft capital again this year and generally used it well. Top to bottom they all look better but it’s hard to see either Washington improving unless they sort out their QB situation. Predicted finishing order…

1st Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles probably should have hoisted the Super Bowl Trophy last season, and they will be better for the experience. The Eagles had two 1st round picks adding Georgia pair DT Jalen Carter & Edge Rusher Nolan Smith to an already loaded DL. Overall (on paper anyway) they have one of the most complete rosters in the NFL and its not a stretch to imagine them being in the Super Boewl again in 2023.

2nd Dallas Cowboys

Dak Prescott is a good if not great QB who with a supporting defense can win lost of games. The good news for Cowboys fans is that that their D should be exceptional this year. That should be good enough for them to at least make the Wild Cards. Stephon Gilmore may be approaching 33 but he still has plenty left in the tank and the 2019 NFL  Defensive Player of the Year adds badly needed depth at Corner. Him and Trevon Diggs could be one of the best pairings in the NFC.

3rd New York Giants

Big Blue exceeded expectations somewhat in 2022 reaching the playoffs and winning their Wild card round. They were outclassed by the Eagles In the Divisional Round but did enough with a relatively young team to indicate they are on the up. They gave QB Daniel Jones a big contract and have tagged Saquon Barkley. Thus their offense is intact and they have added a lot of depth both in the draft and via free agency. They might sneak into the playoffs again.

4th Washington Commanders

Washington has a new owner but the same issues, great defense shame about the QB. If Sam Howell turns out to be the new Brock Purdy then who knows they could get double-digit wins. The most likely scenario though in this company is for them to hover around 50-50 but still finish in 4th place with a middling draft pick in 2024.

NFC East Predicted Wins Total 2023-24

Philadelphia Eagles 12-5

Dallas Cowboys 11-6

New York Giants 10-7

Washington Football Team 8-9

So there you have it our predictions for what could be once again the best division to watch in the NFC. There is a good chance that the path to the 2023-4 Super Bowl goes through the East.
