New Orleans Saints, NFC East, NFC South, NFL Playoffs, Philadelphia Eagles

NFC Divisional Game Philadelphia Eagles @ New Orleans Saints

NFC Divisional Game Philadelphia Eagles @ New Orleans Saints

NFC Divisional Game Two Philadelphia Eagles @ New Orleans Saints NFC East v NFC South

Ten games into the season and sporting a 4-6 record it looked like the defending Super Bowl Champions were going to be watching Januarys action rather than participating. However five wins in their last six games helped in no small part by the Washington Redskins losing starting QB Alex Smith, and then their backup (both to broken legs) and some other fortuitous results and suddenly they were the no 6 seeds. They scraped past the Bears in the Wild Card game 16-15 thanks to Cody Parker missing a last few seconds field goal by the narrowest of margins, but now face a stern test against the Saints who beat them 48-7 in the regular season.

The Saints are the Number one seeds and following a surprise opening game defeat, they went on to win 13 of their next 14 games to grab home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The final loss to the Panthers is best disregarded as they rested most of their starters. Their winning run included an impressive victory over the Rams and a 51-14 beat down on the Bengals. They have looked the best team in the NFL all season and are justifiable favourites not just for this game but for the Super Bowl.

Past Meetings

The two sides have met in the postseason three times previously 1992, 2006 and 2013. The score is 2-1 to the Saints and they have narrowly won the last two games.

Prediction

Although for a purely selfish reason I would like to see the Eagles win (Green Bay holds The Saints 1st round Draft Pick this year) I can’t see anything but a comfortable New Orleans Win which will set up another meeting with the Rams. If its as good a game as their regular season meeting we will be in for a treat.

Score prediction New Orleans 35 Philadelphia 21
