Green Bay HOF QB Bart Starr Dies age 85

Bart (Bryan Bartlett) Starr who Quarter Backed the Green Bay Packers in the 1960s and early 1970s sadly died this weekend. He had been suffering ill health following a stroke in 2014 and passed away on Sunday morning in Birmingham, Alabama, his home state age 85.

Originally drafted in the 17th Round in 1956 he would go on to play for 16 seasons with Green Bay, winning 5 NFL Championships and the first two Super Bowls. He also played in four Pro Bowls and was MVP in 1966.

Despite winning Super Bowls 1 & 2 Bart will be best remembered for that game-winning QB sneak in the bitterly cold championship matchup the “Ice Bowl” against the Dallas Cowboys in December 1967. This remains the coldest NFL game ever with it being recorded at -13 degrees.

Overall he went 9-1 in postseason games under Coach Lombardi and was named the Most Valuable Player in the first two Super Bowls, and after retiring from the game in 1971 coached the Packers from 1975 to 1983, leading them to the playoffs in 1982, where they lost to the Cowboys in the second round.
