It’s currently June, and we went into lockdown mid March.

The world has been shook by the virus.

Virus deaths were soaring in March, but since then they’ve slowly been dropping. And now, we’re at the lowest point, in terms of virus deaths, since March.

Statistics show that at the week ending May 22nd, there were around 2,300 deaths that mentioned the Coronavirus. Overall that week there were 12,300 deaths, which is 2,300 more than usual at this time of year.

According to officials, at the peak of the virus, double the number of people were dying at that time of year than expected.

It’s been said that around 235,000 were expected to pass away by now this year in the UK, but in reality there have been 51,400 more than expected, totalling 286,700 deaths.

Where the excess deaths have happened is also not the same across the country. According to some sources, the North East of England has seen the highest number of excess deaths during the pandemic.

In total across the world at the time of writing, there are more than 6,000,000 confirmed cases. And more than 200,000 in the UK. This isn’t active cases though, this is just all cases past and present.
