The UK theory part of the driving test is set to change soon.

You have to pass the theory test before your actual practical test.

The driving test in the UK is reportedly one of the hardest worldwide. But, it could be getting easier, as the difficult written questions that everyone knows about are set to be changed to video clips which the testee will have to answer questions about. It is reportedly meant to make the test more accessible to the public.

The DVSA say they want to modernise the test more, and help people with disabilities that might find the current tests difficult due to the layout and format of the questions.

When addressing the change, DVSA Chief Driving Examiner Mark Winn said: “DVSA’s priority is to help everyone through a lifetime of safe driving.

“Being able to drive can be life-changing and the DVSA is committed to helping everyone access the opportunities driving can offer.

“We have worked closely with road safety experts and learners to create a theory test which fully tests a candidate’s knowledge of the rules of the road and is more accessible.”

As part of the updating of the test, the DVSA worked with multiple groups that aid the disabled when developing the new test format.

And, even though the written questions are set for a huge change, the hazard perception section of the test is set to stay the same.

The update comes into effect on the 28th of September, so until then, the tests are running as normal with the written style questions.
