2018 was a great year for gaming, we had some amazing titles come in and steal the show, as other were stilling making sales even though they were released and announced a few years ago, like GTA V, this game has been out since 17th September 2013 and has still managed to gain the number 11 spot in the top 20 bestselling games, more copies of a 2013 game was sold this year, than a 2018 copy of FIFA 19! This list may surprise you, Number 1 surprised me when I first saw this! You won’t believe it! What do you think the top 6 bestselling games of 2018 were?
#6 Marvel’s Spider-Man!
This year saw the release of one of the first major Spider-man games that had the right web functions and movement since Spider-Man 2 in 2004! The game was incredible, and for a lot of people, they thought the creator’s insomniac killed it, the story was mesmerising, the character development was amazing and all and all a well thought out game. No one was expecting this to be a massive hit! The Plot saw you fighting more than one villain and had some incredible action scenes to go with it! The creators put a lot of time into creating this game, trying to get the functions and actions to work! The free roam game also has some hidden Easter eggs that could show what we can expect if there’s another Spider-Man game being released in the next few years! This game won the; Fan favourite action game of the year, fan favoured single player gaming experience of the year and the character of the year, Peter Parker! #5 Super Smash Bros. Ultimate!
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a crossover fighting game that has characters from everyone’s favourite TV shows and games, such as; Mario, Pokémon, Pacman and many more amazing characters to choose from. This game was developed by Bandai Namco Studios and Sora Ltd. Unfortunately for some of us, this game was only released on the Nintendo Switch, so if you don’t have a Nintendo Switch you most likely would have played or heard of this game! The main aim of the game is to fight with any character and fight other characters to try and win! Since November 2018, Ultimate sold over 3 million units only in the United States, in the first 11 days of its release! Within a few weeks, this game became the 5th bestselling game of all time! This game won the, Best console game of the year, best fighting game of the year and the raging bull award for best fighting game of the year! Trailer below!
#4 Madden NFL 19!
Madden NFL 19 has overtaken FIFA 19 in the top selling games of 2018! No one would have thought this day would of come! This is an American football game based around the National Football League, developed by EA sports, this game has been a lot more popular over the last few years! The game is highly rated in the sports community and could potential get the sports game of the year this year! The game was released on all major gaming platforms apart from Nintendo! The lowest rating, they have got as a game is 7/10! This is a great achievement for them. The gameplay is very realistic, and all the features make the game that much more enjoyable to play! #3 NBA 2K19!
NBA 2K19 is a basketball simulation game developed by Visual cons pet but published by 2K sports! This game wasn’t popular back when they first started to create them because the developers didn’t put much time into the development of the game and didn’t get the gameplay completely right, however they have went far since then! the game was released on the 11th September 2018 and has some of the highest reviews of a game ever! EGM scored it a 7/10 as Game Informer scored it a 9/10. This is an amazing game. This game has been released on every platform, including IOS and Android devices! #2 Call of Duty: Black Ops 4!
Call of Duty have managed to release not 1, not 2 but 4 Black Ops games over the past few years! Fans thought they were going to stop after how bad black ops 3 was for some people but they decided to create another! The Game has no campaign, which a lot of fans were hoping they added one! They do however have multiplayer and zombies, zombies have a new storyline that carry’s on with the story of the four major characters, Dempsey, Nikolai, Takeo, Richtofen. We all thought they would have created another storyline, but they didn’t! Black out was the new game mode added, which is nearly like PubG but has its own twist to it! Battle royal game modes are getting more and more popular due to Fortnite doing so well! #1 Red Dead Redemption 2!
No one would have thought this game would be at the number 1 spot, people thought Black ops 4 or Spider-man would have been here but no! Red dead 2 takes the number 1 spot after only being realised in October, so it 2 months, this game got bestselling game of the year! What an achievement! This game is slightly different to Red Dead 1, because the map is massive compared to it! The gameplay is incredible, the western style game has either first, or third person mode and the graphics are amazing, if you have an Xbox one X or PS4 pro and a monitor or TV that supports 4K, then your set! The character development is brilliant, and a lot of fans believe this is the best game Rockstar have made, with the lowest review being 9.5/10! This game won a lot of awards, such as; the Critics’ choice award, Best Audio Design, Best narrative game, Best Performance (Roger Clark), Best music, Game of the Year, Action game of the year, Statue of liberty award of the year and Herman Melville Award for best writing of the year!
