ASAP Rocky tells the court: ‘It got a little scary for us’

ASAP Rocky has been providing evidence in his trial after being accused of assault.

The rapper, real name Rakim Mayers, told the court: “There’s a million things that we could have did, but we decided to walk away.”

Mayers has pleaded not guilty and says he was acting in self defence. He told the court during trial that him and his team had felt threatened by the ‘victims’.

The rapper told the court: “These guys were, you know, their behaviour was very weird and we didn’t know what to expect. It got a little scary for us. I couldn’t help but assume that these guys were under the influence of some type of drugs.”

The case has hit by Swedish-US relations after celebrities including Kim Kardashian West, Justin Bieber, Post Malone and Shawn Mendes backed the #JusticeForRocky campaign and Donald Trump publicly demanded for Mayers to be released.

The court was shown footage of the incident in which the rapper and his two team members were mixed in. The alleged victim said A$AP Rocky and his team assaulted him by kicking and punching plus alleged a glass bottle was used.

A$AP Rocky’s lawyer, Slobodan Jovicic, asked the victim why he approached the rapper in the first place. “Out of all the people in this square, you feel it appropriate to ask these people, whose language you don’t even understand?,” he asked.

Jovicic also played a clip from a cell phone where it appears the victim was trying to hit the rapper’s bodyguard with his fists. The video was played in court; one of the rapper’s bodyguards lawyers, Martin Persson, asked the victim whether a glass/bottle was used in the attack, he added:  “So none of the eight hands in these photos actually holds a bottle.”

“I asked if they had the bottles from the beginning when they approached you and you said yes. Why are you unsure of this now?,” the lawyer added.

The alleged victim replied: “My wounds have not come from nowhere. Would they have come from the air? There are witnesses that can attest to this.”

The trial continues…
