A Hunger Games prequel novel and film is in the making

Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins is writing a prequel novel for the Hunger Games. A film for the new novel is already been in consideration by studios including Lionsgate.

Lionsgate’s chairman said in a statement: “As the proud home of the Hunger Games movies, we can hardly wait for Suzanne’s next book to be published.

“We’ve been communicating with her during the writing process and we look forward to continuing to work closely with her on the movie.”

The Hunger Games is the 20th highest-growing film franchise and has earned over $2.97 billion worldwide. The original trilogy featured Jennifer Lawrence star as Katniss Everdeen but for this new film she may not be returning to the screens as the new story will be based 64 years before the events of the original books.

The novel is expected to be released on May 19, 2020. In a statement Collins said the film will be going back years to the “dark days”. The dark days is the period of 10 years after war, this will all be reconstructed in the novel. It will show the struggle of Panem getting back to normal. This also means that there will be a lot of new characters in the film.

Collins said: “With this book, I wanted to explore the state of nature, who we are, and what we perceive is required for our survival,” she said. “The reconstruction period 10 years after the war, commonly referred to as the Dark Days — as the country of Panem struggles back to its feet — provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity.”
