19th June - On this Day

What does the 19th of June have to offer, well on this day...

June the 19th marks the International Day for the elimination of sexual violence. The day was created in 2016 and aims to raise awareness of the need to put an end to conflict-related sexual violence, to honour the victims and survivors of sexual violence around the world and to pay tribute to all those who have courageously devoted their lives to and lost their lives in standing up for the eradication of these crimes.

On this day in 1953, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed by electrocution for espionage and are the only married couple to be executed together in the US.

Today is "Juneteenth" when it is celebrated that on this day in 1865 the General, Gordon Granger proclaimed the slaves of Texas free, also known as Emancipation Day in Texas.
