Problems for Elizabeth I

When Elizabeth I became Queen in Tudor England in 1518 she faced many issues, due to the pass ruler which was Elizabeth sister, Mary or better known as Bloody Mary there was a lot more to prove to England. Many people believed that a woman could not rule as Mary had failed ruling causing many rebellions as the last the ruler. So no one believed a woman could successfully rule. Due to Elizabeth living in a world where usually men ruled over woman it was hard to be seen as successful ruler.

Many people were uncertain about the future of England when Elizabeth fell ill with small pox during her reign and people knew all too well this disease was deadly enough to kill, she nearly died. Due to this parliament wanted Elizabeth to marry and have a child to carry on the Tudor line. This was Elizabeth when Elizabeth famously claimed that she was married to her country.

For the religious side of the Tudor times, people were known for changing religion to same as the ruler. Elizabeth was protestant so most people changed to protestant to show respect Elizabeth. Due to Elizabeth not wanting to upset the catholics she allowed them to worship in privately. This upset many protestants was upset by this decision as they didn’t want catholics around.

Another issue she faced was Mary Queen of Scots as she was next in line if Elizabeth didn’t have an heir to the thrown. But Elizabeth didn’t want to marry in fear of losing power of the country. She didn’t however want a catholic being put back on the thrown and many plans were made by catholics to overthrow Elizabeth and put Mary in charge. The most famous rebellion was the Northern Rebellion which was put to a stop by Elizabeth.

Ireland was also a big issue as Elizabeth believed she ruled over Ireland and they did not agree and a rebellion was happened over there, however Elizabeth needed the tax due to her not being able to collects from England as it was in poverty.
