A pensioner in France has made the news after he blew a massive hole in his house trying to swat a fly.

A similar fly zapper.

The man, in his 80s, lives in Parcoul-Chenaud in Dordogne, which is a small village in France.

He was eating dinner one day, when a fly started to circle around him and buzz backwards and forwards around the room. Sick of the flies annoying sound, he reached for his fly swatter, thinking it’d solve the problem.

Little did he know, he had a leaking gas cylinder, which was ignited by a spark from the zapper reacting with the leaking gas. The reaction blew a hole in the man’s kitchen, leaving a big mess. I do wonder if he actually got the fly though…

Fortunately, the man didn’t suffer any severe injuries and only suffered some burns, where he was then treated at hospital. Plenty more instances of leaking gas being ignited in the home have ended terribly, so he should count himself very lucky.

An investigating source into the incident said: “On this occasion, gas was leaking into the man’s house.

“The very hot zapper ignited the gas, causing a sudden explosion.

“The man was lucky to get away with a burned hand after diving on the floor, but the kitchen was destroyed along with part of the roof.”

The man is currently being accommodated on a campsite, as he is not being allowed to return to his home for the time being.
