The number of people who’ve sadly died in hospital due to the Coronavirus has risen by 229 in the past 24 hours, the smallest daily increase since March 30th.
The numbers that make up the statistic consist of 204 deaths in England, 14 in Wales, six in Northern Ireland and five in Scotland.
This is the lowest figure reported since March, and it brings the total in the UK to 28,675.
This number is set to change very soon, though. After the government reports deaths inside care homes and in home settings, the number is expected to be a lot higher. But regardless, the numbers reported on March 30th, the last day figures were this low, so we are making progress stopping the virus, even if it does seem gradual.
We seemed to have peaked 10 days later, on April 9th, with 980 deaths reported in one day.
As of 9am 10 April, 316,836 tests have concluded, with 19,116 tests on 9 April.
256,605 people have been tested of which 73,758 tested positive.
As of 5pm on 9 April, of those hospitalised in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus, 8,958 have sadly died. pic.twitter.com/m6gDZBMUWb
