The PM has announced that gyms will reopen in a “couple of weeks”.

The UK is eager to have gyms reopen so people can get back to their usual fitness routines, and, to many peoples delight, gyms don’t seem very far away from opening. He’s also focusing on opening cinemas and theatres again too, which is exciting news.

Speaking on LBC, the PM said: “We are going to reopen gyms as soon as we can do it in a Covid-secure way and I think that the date for reopening gyms at the moment, if we can do it, is in just a couple of weeks’ time.”

“The best way forward for the country is to get the economy moving again,” he said: “We want to get every part of our industry, including theatres, that are so vital.”

However, some people disagree with the PM opening up pubs and restaurants before Gyms and other health and fitness facilities. When addressing this, he said: “People, I think, listening to this debate do know the answer to that, and that is to stop the spread of the disease.“

The culture secretary tweeted addressing gyms reopening too, as you can see above. This really shows that the reopening of gyms is one of the higher priorities of the government now, alongside things like cinemas and swimming pools. The argument is still there though that people should have been allowed to go to the gym before going on a night out. It’s far easier for people to social distance sober, and many people, as proven this weekend, seem to forgot about that once they got a few drinks in their system. Which really makes you wonder why the PM said it was safer opening pubs first? Nevertheless, infection rates still seem to be falling countrywide, but the government has also recently warned that other areas will suffer the same fate as Leicester if the infection rate doesn’t come down – which would be a local lockdown.
