Shearer Blames Owen for Newcastle’s Relegation!

Back in 2009, Newcastle needed to win to stay in the Premier League and needed to have their best team out to win, Michael Owen was one of their best players however he was injured and still had a week or so to recover from his injury, Alan Shearer was in charge of the club and wanted Owen to play but he wouldn’t, due to his injury. Shearer held Owen accountable for his relegation in 2009 due to lack of effort and to Owen’s attitude towards the club.

“When Alan (Shearer) got the job, he kind of held Michael Owen accountable for part of the relegation,” Bridges told Optus Sports. Meaning Shearer really didn’t like Owen when he played for Newcastle United. In Michael Owen’s autobiography, called “my life, my time” he opens up about his experience at St James Park and his ‘friendship’ with the club. Owen said that joining Newcastle back in 2005 was a downwards step, even when partnering up top with one of the best English Strikers Alan Shearer. A lot of fans believe that Owen disrespected the club and disrespected them in his book as well.

Since this moment and the moment on BT Sports when Owen said he, hated his few years at Newcastle, both Owen and Shearer have been exchanging tweets back and forth. Shearer said, “Yes Michael, we thought that also, whilst on £120k a week…” Which Owen replied with,” Not sure you are as loyal to Newcastle as you make out mate. I distinctly remember you being inches away from signing for Liverpool after Sir Bobby Robson put you on the bench. You tried everything to get out.” Everything heated up on Twitter.
